Women's Equal Rights
|
We have heard so much about women's equal rights and their movement. Women have been struggling for their equal rights since long and it has been improved a lot but still need betterment in many areas. It's like a ladder; to make a new strong step we have to work hard in harmony then climb slowly and steadily to the top.
The feminist movement started around 1960s and due to that women are a lot better than in the past, but that's not enough. We need to work even harder to make the future of our children better than ours. In the past women were considered inferior than men, they were not given the right to vote, couldn't work at a higher position and had no respect. From the past half century, there are a lot of feminist movements around the world and surely it has improved the status of women in a society. Now we find women working in every field. Whether it's in administration, management or services providence e.g. as doctors and nurses or members of assemblies, women are working at all levels and ranks. Even in the professions, which were considered restricted to males, women have started not only joining but also excelling in those fields, like computer sciences, mathematics and physics etc. Earlier there was always a glass ceiling in every profession for women and no matter how competent they were, women were not given the chance to cross that ceiling, but now women are running businesses, act as directors and managers and even as Prime Ministers but there are still many other hurdles to cross. All this progress has been in the urban areas. The rural areas need a much more attention than the urban areas. Urban women know their rights and can strive for them but rural women don't know about any such thing and cannot raise voice to make them selves strong and equal to a man. What equality means is very important to understand because some people misinterpret the phrase ‘women's equality rights'. In my opinion, every woman wants the right of protection, respect and security. If these things are provided in a society to a woman then she has equal rights. God has created Eve from Adam's rib, through that He gave her the protection because ribs protect the heart and lungs, which are essential for a man's life. And the respect is given to ribs as they are protecting the heart. Man is responsible for the security of his own ribs because if the ribs are broken by accidents, he will be disabled until the ribs are recovered. Same should be the case with women. She should feel protected by law so that no one can harm her. She should be given respect in society because she's the one responsible for a child's birth and the responsibility of raising the child lies on her shoulders along with the father. She should feel secure to have the equal opportunity rights as men. If she wants and need to work, she should know that there is no hurdle between her and the option she's competent enough to choose. |
